Work at Scunthorpe?
Want to know what Communitas can do for you?

Here are three ways we can support you:

Forging Ahead

Forging Ahead is a FREE two day course that brings all the sources of support available to people worried about redundancy together in one place.

If you’ve ever said (or thought) any of the following, Forging Ahead is the course for you:

  • I have absolutely no idea what to do next if I do lose my job!
  • I’m thinking about re-training, but don’t know where to start.
  • I feel overwhelmed by the number of different agencies on hand. I don’t know what they all do, and which one is best able to help me.
  • I don’t know whether VR is the best thing for me or whether I would be better sitting tight.
  • I’ve got a form to fill in and don’t know what to do with it!
  • I need practical help with CVs, interviews, and application forms.
  • I’m not very good with computers and am worried about looking for jobs on-line.
  • I don’t know which sectors are creating jobs, or how to get into them.

Don’t worry! Forging Ahead brings all the sources of

support to you.

Forging Ahead is a very informal course, delivered by people like you. All of them have faced the same choices that you are dealing with at the moment. They can help you find a way through what looks like a minefield.
Forging Ahead will be delivered on-site, and we will be able to arrange for people who know each other to attend together.
Forging Ahead is open to everyone.  You don’t have to work in a particular area, and you don’t have to know for definite that your job is being made redundant to benefit from the course.  You don’t have to work for Tata. Contractors are also eligible for the course

Forging Ahead has been delivered to our members in workplaces across Yorkshire and the Humber. Here are some of the comments they have made about the course:

“Made me more confident realising there are other people out there like myself. Mock interview – nerve wracking but really good” (Martin, ex Corus worker)

“It has been a very good course. It has given me confidence to go forward and look to the future” (Andy, ex Outo Kumpu worker)

“The course has shown me soft skills I didn’t think I had, and I learned techniques for interviews” (Gary, ex Carrington Wire worker)

Scunthorpe: New Futures with
digital learning’

Communitas logo
Are you a complete beginner with computers?
Do you want to learn how to surf the net or use email?
Would you like to know how to use confused.com?

Then why not come to one of Communitas’s drop in sessions, and learn in your own way, and at your own pace?

The drop in sessions will start in September, and Communitas’s friendly IT Tutor Pauline will be on hand to help you. The focus will not be on sitting exams, but on developing practical skills that will be of use to you – learning how to find the cheapest electricity or car insurance for instance, or how to look for jobs on the internet. Even if you’ve never switched a computer on before, there will be something for you to learn.

Some drop in sessions will be held on Tata premises, but others will be held in libraries and community centres in Scunthorpe.  More details will be available soon.

So, if you fancy “having a go” why not join us. You can come with a friend, or bring a family member.
