Current Projects
Redundancy Support
Communitas
aims to draw down funding in order to identify, and engage with,
members under threat of redundancy. Those affected have access to
support services such as Information, Advice & Guidance, CV
writing, interview skills, training needs analysis, and referral to
training leading to a qualification. These services are designed to
increase an individual’s employability and enhance their career
opportunities within a changing jobs market.
Union Learning Fund (ULF)
Community
Union believes strongly in encouraging members to improve their
employability and life chances through lifelong learning. The ULF
project provides training for Union Learning Reps (ULRs) once they have
been nominated through the branch structure. ULRs work with Train 2
Gain to provide NVQ training for staff within a safe environment,
breaking down barriers which may have previously prevented people
taking up learning opportunities.
Scottish Union Learning Fund (SULF)
This
project supports the Scottish Executive’s Lifelong Learning strategy of
re-skilling the workforce to meet the needs of the 21st century by
training ULRs from within the Community membership. Once trained, ULRs
assist Community members who may have been excluded from education to
engage with learning thereby building confidence and engendering a
culture of ifelong learning.
Better West Midlands
Communitas
is a lead partner within the consortium of trade unions responsible for
the delivery of this project, which provides redundancy support
services to employees in the manufacturing sector. As of October 2007,
the project had provided assistance to some 3,500 individuals, drawn
from over 60 companies. The project currently has a return to work rate
of 62 per cent, which is forecast to rise significantly.
Learning Centres
Communitas
operates two community based learning centres located in Rotherham and Motherwell. The centres provide
opportunities for traditionally excluded learners to access accredited
training in a flexible and relaxed environment. Learners can develop
skills in IT, literacy and numeracy, and access other services
including basic skills assessments, and dyslexia screening.
