Learning Representative Development


In addition to the recruitment and training of learning representatives Communitas supports the reps by organising local and regional support networks and brokering further on-going accredited (up to and including Level 3), skills-based training.

Such training includes:

Skills for Life Awareness: a 3 day course that examines the key issues.

Information, Advice and Guidance: a 3 day course that examines the role and functions of IAG partnerships , the role of quality standards in relation to IAG and the role of the learning reps in advice and guidance delivery in the workplace and/or the community.

Workforce development: a 3 day course covering opportunities for negotiating employee development schemes, methods of provision and the role of the learning rep in Workforce Development.

Negotiating Skills: a 3 day course to equip learning reps with the skills to negotiate with management and other agencies on all matters concerning learning opportunities and provision.

Presentation Skills: a 2 day course designed to increase the confidence of learning reps to enable them to stand up and address a group and to give them the skills to prepare and deliver a presentation.

Pensions Awareness: a 1 day course to increase the awareness of attendees with respect to the importance of having pension provision.

Pensions: a 3 day course to give learning reps the opportunity to update themselves on the substantial changes to the provision of pensions in recent years; consider how the changes have affected the workplace and draw up an action plan.

Health and Safety: a range of courses are offered both general and specific covering most aspects of health and safety; the courses vary in length from 2 days to 36 days.

Skills for Life National Tests: a tutor led programme to support learners to achieve the National Tests in literacy and/or numeracy. Duration depends on the starting point and level of competence desired.

ESOL: these courses are designed to give non-English speakers the skills and confidence to communicate verbally and in writing within the workplace and the wider community. Duration depends on the starting point and the level of competence desired. 

Computing: a full range of general and specific courses are available ranging form the absolute beginner to the advanced use
